Ayurveda is an ancient traditional practise of plant-based medicine which began to originate in India more than 5,000 years ago and has continued to evolve ever since then. Ayurveda is based on understanding the holistic and therapeutic properties of plants and the concept that wellbeing is a careful balance cultured by equally caring for our body, mind, and soul.
The term Ayurveda is derived from the Sanskrit words ayur (life) and veda (science or knowledge). Thus, Ayurveda translates to knowledge of life. Ayurveda is based on the dual approach of stimulating both detoxification and rejuvenation through internal and topical remedies.
Herbs and other plants, including oils and common spices, are used extensively in Ayurvedic treatments. Uniting the concepts of universal interconnectivity, the body's constitution (prakriti), and life forces (doshas) form the primary basis of ayurveda. Once you understand your dosha-type, you can apply the principles of Ayurveda to every area of your life. Ayurveda encourages holistic lifestyle interventions and natural therapies to regain our natural balance between body, mind, spirit, and the environment. Whether at home or professional, Ayurvedic treatments start with encouraging internal purification, followed by a personalised diet, herbal remedies, massage therapy, yoga, and meditation to rejuvenate every area of our mental, physical, and emotional health and wellbeing.
About our Founder:
The founder of our business, Sheilesh Shah, was from his early years fascinated by the principles of Ayurveda, including its benefits and the holistic way of living it promotes. Sheilesh admires his father, Maganlal, for inspiring this love of plants within him.
Maganlal was well known in business for founding the successful business Fudco, which Sheilesh joined and led as Partner from 1991 until 2021. Maganlal had started Fudco in 1978 as a retail operation in Wembley, London before subsequently setting up a milling and packing operation. Always keen to respond to the ever-increasing customer demand for quality ethnic products, Fudco became firmly established as one of the leading brands in the ethnic foods market, a trusted household brand, and earned global recognition.
In 2021, Sheilesh sold the foods division of Fudco and chose instead to focus his time and efforts into our natural health and beauty offering, of which Hesh is a key part of our assortment. "HESH" meaning Health, Energy, Science & Harmony was personally created by Sheilesh and a testimony to his belief that the herbs, barks and plants which are religiously used in Ayurveda must always be of the highest quality in all aspects of sourcing, testing, and processing: and this attention to detail is what sets our products apart from our competitors.
We are proud to be certified as an Ethnic Minority-owned Business. EMBs represent just 7% of all SMEs (small-medium enterprises) meaning we hold a unique position in the UK business world.
